The Palestinian Authority released a senior Hamas leader from prison, according to an official with the militant group. The release of Mahmoud Zahar, a spokesman for Hamas in the Gaza Strip, came after several other leading militants were released in recent days, the official said. He added that there were some 250 other activists still imprisoned in the wake of a recent Palestinian crackdown on Islamist opponents of the Wye agreement.
