The Polish Jewish community and representatives of world Jewry declared an end to their longstanding differences and pledged to work together to restitute some 1,500 communal properties from the Polish state. Poland’s government established a deadline of May 2002 for claiming properties, but Jewish officials expect the deadline to be extended. About 760 properties have been recovered so far.
