The prestigious Templeton Prize for Progress in Religion was presented to a Jewish philanthropist and activist. Sir Sigmund Sternberg of Great Britain has been credited with playing a fundamental role in the Vatican’s decision to recognize the state of Israel and in relocating a Catholic convent from the site of the Auschwitz death camp. The prize, worth $1.23 million, will be utilized to fund interfaith activities, Sternberg said.
