The settler population in the West Bank and Gaza Strip increased by 8 percent last year, down from 13.2 percent growth in 1999, according to Israel’s Interior Ministry. The settler population now totals 203,068. The two fastest-growing communities were the fervently Orthodox settlements of Beitar Ilit and Kiryat Sefer, while the fervently Orthodox community of Immanuel was the only settlement with negative growth, falling 1.75 percent.
