The Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry has launched its national “Adopt a Family” campaign. Families, schools, synagogues and organizations are being encouraged to establish a personal relationship and concern with individual Soviet Jews in need of help. The first “adoptee,” the SSSJ said, is Dr. Isaac Politinnikov, the noted Novosibirsk ophthalmologist, who is under pressure for seeking to emigrate to Israel. His daughter, Eleanora, and son-in-law, Mark, are touring the U.S. to publicize his plight. Other “adoptees” include Eitant Finkelstein and Zelig Gafanovich, Vilna activists, threatened with possible imprisonment for their activities.
