The town of Mariampol has been inundated by floods caused by the overflow of the Njemen River. The town has suffered great damage and large numbers of people have been left homeless. Kovno, the capital of Lithuania, is also in danger of flood, and the authorities are taking steps to safeguard the inhabitants. The Njemen is continuing to rise.
