The two Chief Rabbis and the aged Hasidic Rabbi of Gur were among Orthodox and ultra-Orthodox figures who took part Monday evening in a mass pray-in at the Western Wall against Sabbath desecration in Jerusalem. The turnout — many thousands — was somewhat less than the organizers had hoped for but nevertheless impressive. The prayers ended with the sounding of the shofar.
