The U.S. House of Representatives rejected an amendment that would cut assistance to Egypt. The amendment proposed June 8 by Rep. David Obey (D-Wis.) and to have been attached to the foreign operations appropriations bill, would have cut $100 million in $1.8 billion in assistance to Egypt and diverted it to humanitarian assistance elsewhere.
