The U.S. House of Representatives voted 274-154 to gradually reduce and then repeal the estate tax. Jewish philanthropists have voiced concern over the repeal, saying charitable giving will suffer if the incentive to leave one’s wealth to charity is removed. The organized Jewish community has remained relatively silent on the issue for fear of offending some donors, sources say.
