The U.S. House of Representatives voted against two voucher amendments to the education bill. After a spirited debate, attempts by conservatives to insert into the legislation a national voucher program and a limited voucher pilot project failed by wide margins. The programs would have allowed federal funding to help parents pay for their children’s private school tuition.
