The U.S. Senate named Sept. 9 “HIAS Day” to mark the 120th anniversary of a group that has resettled more than 4 million immigrants, mostly Jews, in the United States. On that date, the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society’s anniversary celebration will be centered in Brooklyn, home to hundreds of thousands of Jews who have emigrated from the former Soviet Union during the past decade.
