The United States announced the appointment of a new Army general to oversee Israeli-Palestinian security coordination. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Tuesday that Lt. Gen. William Ward, appointed in February to help pave the way for Israel’s withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, would be replaced by Maj. Gen. Keith Dayton. No immediate date was given for the handover. Dayton previously served as director of the Iraq Survey Group, which searched for alleged weapons of mass-destruction developed by Saddam Hussein.
