The United States wants Israel to curb weapons sales to China. The issue was raised because “whenever any of our friends sells sophisticated equipment that might be American in origin, that is inconsistent with the terms under which the transfer was made,” President Clinton said. Clinton’s comment came in the wake of Israel’s disclosure that it had sold an advanced radar system to the Chinese air force.
