The vast majority of Israelis back circumcision, a poll found.
Ynet published a survey Thursday showing that 97 percent of Israeli Jews have circumcised or would circumcise their sons, with 78 percent citing religious over health or social reasons. Sixty-nine percent said they would want the procedure performed by a ritual mohel rather than a doctor.
The poll indicated that bris is the religious rite secular Jews are least likely to relinquish. Also topping that list is the Passover seder, which a recent survey found at least 80 percent of Israelis would celebrate. Circumcision also is widespread among Israeli Arabs.
The Ynet poll had 550 respondents. The margin of error was not immediately given.
