The Childrens Welfare League of the Jewish Center of the East Side, an organization which supplies 1,200 free meals each week to poor children, will hold its annual New Year’s Eve dinner and dance at the Biltmore Cascades on Monday evening, December 31. Mrs. William P. Goldman of 575 Park avenue is chairman of the affair.
Mrs. Gabriel Hamburger, president of the League, hopes to raise a portion of the League’s 1935 budget through the sale of tickets for the dinner and dance. Besides providing food and medical care for the needy children of the East Side, the League also maintains a modern kindergarten under the supervision of experienced teachers.
JUNIOR HADASSAH
The Queens Village Junior Hadassah is planning a Purim affair to be held on March 17 in the Queens Village Center. Miss Dorothy Berlow will be in charge and she will be ably assisted by the Misses Gladys Berlow, Edith and Marie Kantrowitz and Ethel Siegelman.
TRINKETS FOR CHARITY
The Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies is the beneficiary of a novel means of raising funds. At the Thrift House at 9 West Fifty-seventh street, where a permanent rummage shop is maintained, there has just been inaugurated Old Gold and Silver Month, during which individuals are requested to bring to the shop such articles of old gold and silver for which they have no longer any use. Proceeds of the sale of these articles will be turned over to Federation to swell the Emergency Fund of this organization.
Mrs. Julius Ochs Adler is honorary chairman and Mrs. Albert J. Seligsberg active chairman of the Old Gold and Silver Month Committee. Others aiding are Mmes. Samuel A. Lewisohn, Felix M. The Ladies’ Auxiliary of the Hillside-Hollis Hebrew Center has chosen new chairmen for five important committees. They are Mrs. Henrietta Schonberger, ways and means; Mrs. Lucille Marynov, house; Mrs. Minnie Strauch, refreshments; Mrs. Pauline Goodman, publicity chairman, and Mrs. Goodman and Mrs. Marynov, membership chairmen. ART CLASS OF Y. W. H. A.
The Art Class which the Y. W. H. A., 31 West 110th street, conducts every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from eight to ten o’clock is proving of great interest to young men and women who wish to study drawing and painting Laci Husser of the College Art Association is the teacher. There are still a few openings in the class and those wishing to enroll will be interviewed by Mr. Husser on any evening on which the class is in session.
JUVENILE CHARITY LEAGUE
The Juvenile Charity League is giving its annual dinner dance at the Waldorf-Astoria on Saturday evening, December 22. Freddie Rich and his Columbia Broadcasting Orchestra will play for the evening. Mrs. Maurice M. Cohn is chairman of the affair and she is assisted by Mrs. W. N. Seligsberg. The proceeds will be devoted to the philanthropic work of the League of which Mrs. Sol Cohn is president.
A GALA SUPPER DANCE
An especially brilliant New Year’s Eve supper dance is planned by the Godmothers’ League at the grand ballroom of the Hotel Plaza. This annual affair is always one of the outstanding events of the social season and this year the dance promises to be even more successful than ever before. A debutante group of 200 young people, mostly children of the senior members, will gather in an adjoining room for the festivities and dancing.
The Godmothers’ League provides food and shelter for needy babies and the proceeds of the dance will be devoted to this charity. Mrs. Emil Hamburger is president of the Godmothers, Miss Audrey Baron chairman of the junior committee, and Mrs. S. T. Baron of 300 West End avenue, chairman of the event. The subscription price is $10 per person; the subscription for the younger group $7.50 per couple.
YORKVILLE DANCES
The annual dance of the Junior League of the Yorkville Ladies’ Benevolent Society will be held December 24 at the Ritz Carlton Hotel. Proceeds will go to the philanthropic work of the parent organization which has been carrying on charitable activities since 1911. Professional entertainment has been provided. Jack Goldberg of 17 East Eighty-ninth street is chairman of the dance. The committee includes the Misses Ruth Rubinsky, Selma Chuck, Naomi Diamond, Harriet Rosen, Helen Louise Salant, Adele Diamond, Charlotte Lamport and Messrs. Stanley Dorman, Bernard Grauer and Abraham Katz.
ADDRESSES DRAMA STUDY CLUB
Dr. Dudley Schoenfeld, the well-known psychiatrist, will discuss the Broadway success, “The Children’s Hour,” before the Drama Study Club next Friday afternoon. Miss Lillie Selig, president of the group, will preside at the meeting.
