The World Jewish Congress criticized xenophobic Austrian politician Jorg Haider for disparaging comments he reportedly made about the leader of Austria’s Jewish community. During an address in a beer-hall, Haider was quoted as saying that he did not understand how Ariel Muzicant had “dirt sticking to him.” Ariel is a brand of soap, and the comment is believed to be a reference to the belief that the Nazis made soap out of Jews during World War II.
