Sidney Franklin, Jewish owner of the Little Theatre here specializing in showing German films which were produced before the advent of the Nazi regime, revealed today to the Jewish Daily Bulletin that he has been approached by a representative of a German concern with a proposal to lease the show house for displaying a pro-Nazi film, “God Bless Hitler.”
Franklin declared that he was indignant over the proposal which quoted a rental of $1,250 a week for the four weeks desired, despite the limited seating capacity of the theatre. He declared that, aside from resenting Nazism as a Jew, he felt that it would be extremely dangerous to show such controversial films in his territory because of recent rioting in Newark and Irvington, occasioned by Nazi conclaves.
In line with this sentiment, Franklin decided to forego the showing of any German motion picture for at least two weeks.
