There is little hope for peace in the absence of goodwill on the part of the Israeli government, Israeli and Palestinian participants in a peace-building initiative in South Africa agreed. The Cape Times reported that a member of the Palestine National Council, Jamal Zakout, welcomed the “road map” peace plan but warned that a lack of commitment on the part of the Israeli government could scuttle the plan.
