This morning’s session of the Actions Committee was devoted to a debate on the reports submitted yesterday by Prof. Selig Brodetsky and Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff, members of the world Zionist Executive in charge of political affairs, the former in London and the latter in Jerusalem.
A debate on the report of Victor Jacobson, dealing with the work of the Zionist office in Geneva was also held.
The speakers included Dr. Isaac Gruenbaum, Polish Jewish Zionist leader, S. Kaplansky and J. Sprinzak of Polestine, representing the Poale Zion and Dr. Nahum Goldmann, Radical Zionist of Germany. ommissioner to really understand the needs of Palestine is Sir Arthur Grenfell Wauchope, the present incumbent, stated Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff, member of the World Zionist Executive in Palestine, in the course of his address delivered yesterday at the second session of the Actions Committee.
Dr. Arlosoroff denied that most Palestine officials are anti-Zionist. There is no doubt some of them are adhering to established anti-Zionist tradition, but Sir Arthur is fighting these sentiments, Dr. Arlosoroff declared.
Referring to the report of Lewis French, Palestine Land Commissioner, Dr. Arlosoroff revealed that the original number of claims entered by so called “landless” Arabs exceeded 4,000. This number was subsequently reduced to 1,700 he said. Actually, however, the recognized claims now number 249, he asserted. Of this number, 200 “landless” Arabs are in Wadi Hawareth.
Dr. Arlosoroff urged the need for counteracting the anti-Jewish propaganda of the Grand Mufti in Arab countries. Some steps in this direction have already been taken, according to Dr. Arlosoroff, who also stated that the understanding between Jews and Arabs, locally, is progressing.
Dr. Arlosoroff, in his address recognized the necessity of extending Jewish colonization to Transjordania in the course of time.
Contact has already been established with various sheiks anxious to sell their land, but the Jewish Agency has not sufficient funds for this undertaking, he asserted, It is concentrating thus far on maintaing its contacts for future use.
He referred to the case of four Jews who were beaten up and driven out of Transjordania although they had come to purchase land of a would be seller. The case is irrelevant as far as the general attitude is concerned, Dr. Arlosoroff maintained.
