J. H. Thomas, British Colonial Secretary, in a brief message broadcast to Palestine today on the opening of the Levant Fair in Tel Aviv, wished the fair success and expressed confidence that recent disorders in the Holy Land would not prevent it from being successful.
Reviewing the growth of the fair over a period of twelve years, Mr. Thomas said it was “a very real pleasure” to be able to participate in the opening. He continued:
“Naturally the unhappy events of the last two weeks cast a deep shadow upon the occasion. But I am confident that these sad happenings will not prevent the organizers of the Levant Fair from repeating and surpassing the remarkable success which they achieved two years ago.
“On behalf of His Majesty’s Government in the United Kingdom I wish the Levant Fair great and memorable success and extend a very cordial welcome to its exhibitors from whatever land they may come.”
