Jews evacuated from Kiev prior to the Nazi occupation of the Ukraine are now being repatriated by the Russian authorities together with their cultural institutions, the Moscow press reported today.
The archives of the Department of Jewish Culture at the Ukrainian Academy of science were shipped on a special train yesterday from Moscow to Kiev. Escorting the archives was Elyah Spivask, a doctor of psychology, who is the head of the Jewish Department of the Academy, and a staff of Jewish research workers. The Soviet Ukrainian Government has allocated the necessary funds for further work of the Department and has taken upon itself to provide living quarters for the entire staff, the Moscow newspapers report.
“Thousands of Jews who have already returned to Kiev are taking an active part in the restoration of their native city, where the Germans massacred tens of thousands of Jewish men, women and children,” the Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee said today.
