Thousands of Jewish sportsmen taking part in next month’s eleventh maccabiah will participate in a symbolic tree-planting ceremony on July 6, the maccabiah opening day at the maccabiah forest near modiin. The site is close to the grave of the original maccabee family.
Every maccabiah participant will be asked to contribute a small sum — and will receive a tree-certificate attesting to a tree having been planted in the forest, a JNF spokesman explained.
