Threats to Israel are also threats to Canada, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said. In remarks to a Toronto audience gathered for Israel’s 60th anniversary, Harper made a firm declaration of Canada’s “unshakable” support for the Jewish state. “Our government believes that those who threaten Israel also threaten Canada,” Harper said, “because as the last world war showed, hate-fueled bigotry against some is ultimately a threat to us all and must be resisted wherever it may lurk.” A crowd of more than 7,000 heard Harper speak, according to the event organizer, UJA Federation of Greater Toronto.
Harper also said he was looking forward to visiting Israel to witness the “miracle” that is its survival against great odds.
