Three-day General Assembly of Jewish Federations Opens to Discuss Communal Problems

The 16th annual General Assembly of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds will open in Chicago tomorrow, with about 1,000 communal leaders from all parts of the country in attendance. The three-day conference will consider major problems affecting Jewish community life in the United States ?d aid to Jews in Europe and Palestine.

Representing Jewish federations, welfare funds and community councils in 235 communities in the United States and Canada, the Assembly will analyze the present ?rends in all fields of Jewish activities and will map plans to strengthen the work ## agencies combatting anti-Semitism and those carrying on Jewish education, social planning, health and care of the aged. It will also discuss steps to be taken by ##e American and Canadian Jewish communities to meet their responsibilities with re##rd to the establishment of the Jewish state and the rehabilitation of Jews in European countries, as well as immigration of Jewish refugees to the United States.

One of the major issues which the Assembly will take up will be the relationship between the communities and the national Jewish agencies. The gathering is expected to make important decisions on community planning, national operating and capital fund needs, community relations and civil rights and similar problems.
