Strengthening Israel buttresses the peace and security of the Middle East by demonstrating that a functioning democracy is a “convincing answer to Communism,” Dr. Miriam Freund, national president of Hadassah, declared here last night at the first three-day Western area conference of the women’s Zionist organization. She spoke to 750 delegates at a Chanukah banquet.
“The increasing permanence and stability of Israel is beginning to have an impact on thoughtful Arab minds,” Dr. Freund asserted. She cited Israel’s excellent health record as one of the factors which are “demonstrating the value of democracy” to the Arab nations of the Middle East.
