Three Israeli Arabs were indicted on suspicion of plotting to kidnap a soldier as ransom for jailed Palestinian terrorists.
The Shin Bet announced Monday it had arrested in May three Arab residents of Lod. The three, allegedly out of radical Islamist motives, had planned to abduct a soldier and then kill him.
As part of the alleged plot, Israeli authorities would be given the location of the soldier’s body in exchange for the release of Palestinian prisoners.
The three men, one of whom studies Islamic law in Jordan, were indicted Monday in Petah Tikvah Magistrates’ Court on charges of aiding the enemy in wartime and felony conspiracy. The indictment said the three men were members of a religious group at a mosque in Lod.
