The 1951 “Zvi Kessel prizes” for the best books in Yiddish and Hebrew published during the year were announced here today. The winners are I. I. Trunk of New York, author of a Yiddish novel “Simcha Plachte” based on a Jewish legend; Simshon Meltzer of Tel Aviv, author of a Hebrew volume, “Poems and Ballads, ” and Joseph Rogel of Montreal, author of “Aushwitz,” a book of Yiddish poems reflecting the life of Jews in the Nazi annihilation camp of Oswiecim where he was one of the inmates. The prizes carry $200 each.
