Only three Jews are known to have been elected to Parliament so far in the first ballot which took place yesterday – M. Leon Blum, the leader of the Socialist Party, M. Leon Mayer, Radical Socialist, Mayor of Havre, and a former member of the Government, and Maitre Henri Torres, Socialist, the famous barrister, who was Shalom Schwartzbard’s counsel and obtained his acquittal. M. Charles Rappaport, one of the Communist leaders, and M. Myrtil Bernheim, Socialist, have failed.
