Three leading U.S. museums posted lists of paintings on their Web sites in an effort to learn whether the works were looted by the Nazis. New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art posted a list of 393 paintings at www.metmuseum.org. Similar moves were taken by New York’s Museum of Modern Art (www.moma.org) and the Art Institute of Chicago (www.artic.edu).
