Further details concerning the anti-Jewish excesses in Roumanian towns were received here in despatches from Bucharest.
It appears that the students returning from the Jassy Congress attacked the Jewish population in the cities of Foscany, Buzeu and Ploechti where many Jews were seriously injured. Anti-Semitic excesses also took place in Jassy and in Bucharest, where five Jewish students in the law school were seriously injured. The reports state that in the city of Kishineff, three synagogues were destroyed. Jews are afraid to leave their homes and a hush prevails in the city. Rabbis and leaders of the Jewish community are considering the proclamation of a seven-day fast. The Jewish merchants association has urged its members to close their stores for one day as a sign of protest against the excesses.
