Ibrahim Jousef, deputy mayor of Tiberias, was shot dead last midnight in what was regarded is Arab extremist terrorism against moderates. Another Arab and a Jewess were also murdered over the weekend.
Jousef was shot in the Arab village of Shafraam while returning home from a wedding celebration. He was a lawyer and had refused to participate in the strike of Arab municipal officials held coincident with the Arab general strike last year.
The second Arab was found dead this morning between Yarkona and Petach Tikvah.
Friday night, Mrs. Mali Engelshardt, 41 years old, a colonist at Yarkona was shot and fatally wounded while investigating a suspicious noise outside her home. An unsuccessful operation at the hospital showed she had been shot with a dumdum bullet. A husband and two children in Germany, whom she left in 1924, survive her.
Two Arabs were seriously wounded by shots fired at close range as they were leaving the Mosque of Omar. The attack was aimed against a group of four Arabs, two of whom are leaders of strike committees in Arab villages in the vicinity of Jerusalem. Police expressed the belief the shooting had a political motive.
