The noted Egyptian advocate M. Castro, who represented Umberto Jabes, an Italian Jew in the libel action which was yesterday dismissed by the Mixed Tribunal as being outside its jurisdiction, announced today that he would appeal the verdict.
Jabes brought action against W. van Meersten, president of the Cairo Deutscher Verein and A. Safarowsky, a printer. He charged that they libelled him in a pamphlet entitled “The Extension of Judaism in Germany.”
The German press, which had been following the trial closely jubilantly hailed the verdict as the “failure of world Jewry.” The verdict will be utilized by the Nazi government in a special broadcast over the government-owned radio system.
