Formal dedication of Congress House, a clubhouse for German exiles now in the United States, will be held Monday evening at the clubhouse, 50 West Sixty-eighth Street, which will at the same time be thrown open to public inspection.
The program has been arranged by the Women’s Division of the American Jewish Congress under whose auspices the clubhouse has been established and will be maintained.
A distinguished group of men and women will witness presentation of the clubhouse to exiles from Germany by Mrs. Stephen S. Wise, president of the Women’s Division of the American Jewish Congress, who conceived the idea of the institution.
The key to the clubhouse will be accepted by Dr. Ludwig Freund, former national director of the Jewish War Front Soldiers of Germany, who is now in this country as a refugee from Germany.
The institution which will be made over to German exiles on Monday provides recreational and social facilities and temporary shelter for refugees from Germany, regardless of religious, social or political credo. All services of the institution are without charge. The clubhouse itself, a five-story building, was donated by the trustees of the Jewish Institute of Religion.
Judah Ibn Shabbethai, Spanish poet of the end of the twelfth century, was noted for his honor.
