Thanksgiving Day, November 30, has been selected for the laying of the cornerstone of the new $300,000 edifice being erected for the Congregation of Temple Beth Israel in West Hartford. Five clergymen, both Jewish and non-Jewish, will participate in the simple exercises being arranged by a committee headed by Judge Solomon Elsner and including Rabbi Abraham J. Feldman and officers of the temple.
A record of those who contributed to the fund for the construction of the new temple and school, written on parchment in imperishable ink, will be among the documents to be placed in the cornerstone. The stone will bear the dates 1843-1933, the former being the year when the congregation, the oldest Reform Jewish Congregation in New England, was officially founded.
Rabbi Feldman announced that the construction work, started last June, will be suspended next month until spring. The temple is designed in a modified Byzantine style, including a main temple in the form of a 12-sided polygon.
