Jewish Centers, Y. M. H. A.’s and Y. W. H. A.’s will celebrate the Jewish festival. Lag Ba’Omer, on Tuesday, May 28th, and will participate in the observance of Memorial Day, May 30.
The Jewish Welfare Board has made available a bulletin of program material and suggestions to be serviceable in the celebration of Lag Ba’Omer, which is known as the Scholars’ Festival. It includes an outline of its significance and observance, together with digests of the stories of Bar Cochba and Rabbi Akiba, who played leading roles in Judea’s last struggle against the Roman oppression of the Jewish State in Palestine. The suggested programs for mass gatherings and for club meetings comprise references to musical selections, declamations, plays, pageants, motion pictures, and dances. The festival is also celebrated by outdoor activities and there are suggestions as to outings, picnics, and athletic events. The bulletin contains selections in prose and verse and twenty-five questions and answers relating to the historical importance of the festival.
A similar bulletin prepared by the Jewish Welfare Board is available for the observance of Memorial Day. It contains references and selections to American historical events of special interest to Jews.
