Police in Beisan arrested a local resident today for the theft of two Torah scrolls valued at $2,400 from the Baruch Meir synagogue. The theft was discovered when worshippers arrived at the synagogue this morning. Police said the scrolls were in the possession of the person arrested and that they are looking for an accomplice. One theory advanced was that the theft was the outcome of a personal quarrel between the thief and synagogue functionaries.
