Zionist Organization of America president Jacques Torozyner said today that the ZOA will not join the American Zionist federation which was proposed along with other Zionist federations by the last World Zionist Congress in Jerusalem. He told the first Pan-American Zionist Conference here that the ZOA’s executive and administrative committee had taken that decision in order to guarantee the ZOA’s autonomy.
Mr. Torczyner said that the Canadian General Zionists had Joined the federation envisioned by the World Zionist Congress and were soon deprived of their initiative and basic rights. The result, he said, is that the Canadian Zionist organization is now virtually non-existent. “We have no intention of inviting such a fate for the ZOA,” said Mr. Torczyner.
