The Federation of Jewish Philanthropies of Toronto is preparing for its annual drive, to be held next month, when it will seek $175,000 through public subscription to carry on its work for another year.
A special meeting was held during the past week-end, with Percy Hermant, president of the federation, chairman, and all executives and committees attending. It was decided that due to the severe depression and unemployment, which had increased the work of the federation and caused much heavier disbursements during the past fiscal year, the objective should be raised to $175,000, from the $150,000 sought last year.
Sigmund Samuel is honorary chairman of the campaign committee, while Percy Hermant is chairman. The federation takes care of fifteen affiliated institutions, which cover every angle of social work.
Irving Oelbaum, secretary of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, will again be manager of the campaign, for the fifth time.
