Dr. Sigmund Samuel, prominent 84-year-old financier and philanthropist, has given the University of Toronto $500, 000 towards the cost of a new library, it was announced here today. The gift will enable the library to go ahead with plans for a $2, 000, 000 building to be called the Sigmund Samuel Library.
“Canadians owe a great debt of gratitude to this citizen who has contributed so much to the nation’s culture, ” said Dr. Sidney Smith, president of the University. “Over the years he has made gifts of statuary and scientific instruments and has provided funds for scholarships and the publication of scholarly works. “
