The trial of Lucien Klotz, former member of the French cabinet, charged with issuing uncovered checks after reverses following betting on the races, was started today. Henri Torres, noted lawyer, is his counsel.

The persons who suffered financial losses due to Klotz’s action withdrew the complaints against him. The beginning of the trial coincided with the beginning of the debate in the Chamber on the ratification of France’s debt accords, including a sum of $400,000,000 contracted in behalf of the French government by M. Klotz, who purchased the American army supplies in 1920.
