Effective immediately, tourists in Israel will no longer be required to eat “austerity” meals, it was announced today. Eleven hotels and three restaurants in Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Haifa will hereafter serve “luxury” meals, for which tourists from abroad will pay in foreign currency. Prices for the meals were fixed by the non-defunct Ministry of Rationing.
Although the new ruling is intended for creation of an additional source of foreign currency, it will also make it unnecessary for visitors from abroad to bring with them large supplies of canned food, it was pointed out.
