Arnold Toynbee, the British historian, called on the Christian world to intervene against preemptive actions by the Israeli government that “not only threaten the beauty and character of (East Jerusalem) but must seriously jeopardize the chances of achieving a lasting peace in the Middle East.” The plea was contained in a letter published in the Times today. A co-signer was Sir Geoffrey Furlonge, former British Ambassador to Jordan.
