The two sisters, Guella and Helena Greenberg, who were married yesterday on a train speeding between Jerusalem and Haifa, by Jewish young men who are Palestine citizens, were nevertheless deported today from Palestine as illegal entrants, despite the fact their marriage to Palestine citizens entitles them automatically to permanent legal residence.
“The marriage ceremony on the train is in complete accordance with the Jewish religion and with the laws of Palestine,” the Chief Rabbinate of Palestine stated today to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, in commenting on the deportation of the two newly married Jewish girls.
Legal steps will be taken by interested parties to contest the deportation order of the Immigration Department. The double train ceremony was performed in the presence of witnesses, in full compliance with the laws of the country.
