Edgar Brojde, the son of World War II master spy Leopold Trepper, is going back home to Israel this week, Trepper family sources said here yesterday. Brojde reportedly has stated that he intends to carry out another hunger strike on behalf of his father’s fight for an exit visa from Polish authorities “if this is useful.”
Trepper urged his family last week to cease their efforts on his behalf, saying that he alone would take the risks to obtain a visa. Trepper headed the “Red Orchestra,” the Soviet espionage organization in Western Europe during World War II. He has been denied a visa by Polish authorities who claim that he still possesses classified information.
Brojde has held two previous hunger strikes one in Jerusalem and one in New York. He was in Copenhagen to visit his mother Elisabeth, who is recuperating from an illness.
