Preliminary investigations have been concluded and the trial is to open shortly of Dr. Marx, director of the Frankfurt branch of the Central Union of German Jews, who was arrested late in April in connection with charges of “active and passive bribery” brought against local police officials by the Nazi authorities. Herr Muehrdel, former head of the local political police, will stand trial with Dr. Marx.
Both men are charged with bribery and corruption, the police alleging that their investigations revealed that the Central Union had maintained intimate relations with ministers and other important officials in the Braun-Severing Administration and influenced the dismissal of nationalist-minded officials. To carry this out, the police allege, the Central Union gave Herr Muehrdel funds and received secret official documents.
