Several Jews went on trial here today as leaders of the Central Office for Jewish Affairs, organized by the Nazis in November of 1941 to handle Jewish matters.
Radu Lecca, Jewish Affairs Commissioner, who was appointed by Gestapo leader Richter, responsible for Jewish matters in Rumania, is not included among the present defendants. They include Dr. Sander Gingold, chief of the Central Office, Adolf Grossman, its financial chief, Jaeques Loon, Lecca’s liaison officer, who is charged with blackmailing Jews, and one Grunberg, alias Wilman, the Central Office’s press chief who wrote an article urging Palestine Jews to surrender to the Nazis when Field Marshal Erwin Rommel reached El Alamein three years ago.
The prosecution is demanding 20 years’ imprisonment on the following charges: Collaborating with the Germans in helping to carry out the anti-Jewish policy, extorting money from Jews, making fortunes by blackmailing Jews, deporting them to Transnistria and sending them into forced labor.
