The trial of forty Germans charged with torturing and exterminating Jews and others in the notorious Dachau concentration camp opened here today. The defendants are accused of killing people in gas chambers and of subjecting others to “medical experiments,” to contagious disesses malarial injections and blood poisoning.
At the outset two motions entered by the defense were overruled. The first was that the accused were prisoners of war and entitled under the Hague Convention to the same courts as are accorded to United States military personnel. The second argued that the charges should be quashed because they were vague and did not specify the names and nationalities of the victims, nor the details and dates of each alleged specific act.
