The trial of Captain Panisoara and three gendarmes charged with responsibility for the torture of Samon Bronstein, Zionist leader of Yedinez, Bessarabia, last May, has been postponed until December 20th, it was learned here today.
The trial was scheduled to open on October 18th, before the second section of the Czernowitz Court of Appeal. There has been a change of venue in addition to a change in date and the trial will now be held in Yedinez, home town of Bronstein.
The court has agreed to the suggestion made by Bronstein’s counsel, Dr. Rosenzweig, that medical men who treated Bronstein be permitted to offer evidence. It rejected, however, the motion of Dr. Rosenzweig that a representative of the Ministry of Interior be invited to offer evidence as well.
Bronstein, a leader of the Poale Zion, was arrested on charges of Communism and tortured for six hours without stop by Captain Panisoara of the local gendarmerie of Yedinez and three gendarmes, according to a written declaration made by Bronstein himself to the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
As a result of the injuries sustained, he was confined to the hospital in Czernowitz for months, fears being entertained lest he be unable to walk again.
