Two Nazi war criminals, convicted in 1961 of complicity in the murder of some 900 Jews, will be tried for a second time by a jury court here after their three-year jail sentences were appealed by the prosecutor and the lower court judgment was quashed by the High Court.
Alfred Krumbach, 52, and Wilhelm Gerka, 56, were sentenced to jail terms when they were found guilty of taking part in mass killings in the Tilsit region near the Lithuanian border while they were members of Einsatzgruppen, the units which carried out the annihilation of Jews in countries occupied by the Nazis in the Second World War.
