Judge Benjamin N. Cardozo, on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday, has been the recipient of tributes paid him by Governor Roosevelt, Lieutenant-Governor Herbert H. Lehman, Nicholas Murray Butler, Felix M. Warburg and countless other personalities of prominence and importance.
The “Jewish Tribune” has devoted a special section to Judge Cardozo and has published the various tributes received. The Governor’s letter reads in part :
“On May 24 Judge Cardozo will be 60 years old, and it is the fervent hope of lawyer and layman alike that he will be spared to us for many years. We all feel an admiration and affection for Judge Cardozo. We know that in him the people of New York State have a representative in their highest judicial tribunal who embodies every qualification consonant with highest judicial ideals.”
Dr. Butler, who is abroad at present, sent his “affectionate greetings and appreciation”. Other notables who are represented in the collection of tributes are : Judge Irving Lehman, former Ambassador Abram I. Elkus, Dr. Cyrus Adler, Samuel Untermyer, Judge Otto A. Rosalsky, Professor Felix Frankfurter and Oswald Garrison Villard.
